Marcel’s dream to help shape world champions has been the motivation behind his success in sport psychology to date. A sportsman from a young age, excelling in rugby league and boxing, Marcel’s desire to work with the best and break world records has been born through experience and a love of competitive sport.
To Marcel, his daily routine feels less like a job, than a daily passion. He’s devoted to helping others achieve their dreams. Inspired by his own journey and what he’s overcome in life, being able to work with others to achieve their goals, is a rewarding way to spend time.
Marcel’s focus and expertise are in promoting high levels of consistent peak performance. He works with an array of athletes, from developmental to elite levels, and for various sporting organisations and academies, including mostly recently Queensland Academy of Sport, Swimming Australia, and the Brisbane Broncos.
He also works outside of traditional sporting contexts assisting clients from all walks of life to develop strategies and techniques to enhance their quality of life, resolve personal issues, and overcome difficult situations. He prides himself on providing a nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe and secure to discuss any concerns openly and freely. Marcel takes a collaborative approach to help clients develop the self-awareness and practical skills necessary to manage symptoms, overcome adversity, and address any immediate concerns. He helps clients to identify specific outcomes and assists in the development of an action plan to achieve those outcomes.
Marcel completed his master of Applied Psychology specialising in Sport and Exercise at The University of Queensland. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, current treasurer of the Queensland College of Sport and Exercise Psychology, and is registered and endorsed as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Marcel utilises an integrated approach to health and well-being with a focus on the psychological, emotional, physical, and environmental factors that influence our behaviour. He draws from his expertise in cognitive behavioural therapy, self-determination theory, client-centered therapy, schema-focused cognitive therapy, and acceptance commitment therapy to promote self-awareness and help his clients cultivate and maintain social, emotional, physical health, and overall well-being.
